A visit to the Shadowlands

It started about two weeks ago.

I saw an ad for a PhD position which would suit me ideally, and began working on my application. Finally I had found a way away from a life of rotting away at some customer support. I would be able to become the person I'd always wanted to be. All I needed to do was produce a stellar application.

Legalised piracy?

I have a bit of a dilemma. With the purchase of my cellphone I also got free access to the Nokia Music Store for a year. Yeah, it was the main reason why I even got the phone in the first place. The problem is that I feel I am somehow robbing the artists I want to support.

More with less, not less with more

It is fairly obvious to anyone not suffering from a severe case of cognitive dissonance that our current policy of infinite economic growth is utterly unsustainable. We "borrow" from future generations at a rate which we won't be able to pay back (we might even have crossed the line already). Infinite economic growth based on finite resources can only lead to an ever increasing allocation of resources in the hands of an ever shrinking number of people. Getting out of this infinite economic growth is difficult, I personally don't know how it can be done, I'd probably be a Nobel laureate if I did. But that doesn't change the fact that we must get out of it.
